First: is anyone locked inside?
If a child, an elderly person or a pet is inside the car, call 911 first, then us. In South Florida heat, the inside of a closed car climbs dangerously fast, even on a mild day. Emergency responders can get there and get in quickly.
Florida's good-Samaritan law (s. 768.139, Florida Statutes) protects a person who breaks into a car to rescue a vulnerable person or a domestic animal in imminent danger, after checking the car is locked and calling 911. Safety beats glass every time.
How a car lockout works
Modern cars are opened with an inflatable wedge and a long-reach tool that presses the unlock button or pulls the handle from inside, the way roadside professionals do it. No coat hangers, no slim-jims inside modern doors full of wiring and airbag sensors.
Tell us the make, model and year when you call. Some vehicles have deadlocking or double-locking systems, frameless windows, or an alarm that goes off once the door opens. Knowing ahead means the right tools come with the technician.
Proof of ownership
Before we hand the car back we'll check ID against the registration or title. If the paperwork is in the glovebox, we'll open the car and check it together. If the car belongs to a family member, a rental company or your employer, tell us on the phone and we'll work out what's needed.
Where we come to
Anywhere you can safely wait: home, work, a Las Olas parking garage, the Hollywood Beach lots, a gas station off I-95 or I-595, Aventura Mall. In a garage, tell us the level and the section. At the beach, the lot name or the nearest lifeguard tower helps. If you're somewhere that doesn't feel safe to wait, say so, and go wait somewhere public nearby.
Locked out because the key is lost?
That's a different job. We need to make you a new key, not just open a door. See car key replacement, or use the key finder to work out what kind of key your car uses before you call.
What affects the price
- Vehicle make, model and year
- Deadlocking or alarm systems that need extra care
- Where the car is (street, garage, restricted lot)
- Time of the call and distance to you
The price on the phone is the price at the door. We quote the total before dispatch and you approve it before work begins. If something changes once we see the lock, we stop and tell you first.
- Lock or hardware typeA standard deadbolt, a high-security cylinder and a smart lock are different jobs.
- Vehicle and key typeMake, model and year; mechanical, transponder, remote or push-to-start key.
- ComplexityOpening a latch vs. a thrown deadbolt; one cylinder vs. a whole building.
- TimeEvening and short-notice work can cost more than a scheduled daytime visit.
- LocationHow far the nearest technician has to drive, and access (gates, garages).
- Required partsCylinders, locks, key blanks, chips and fobs, itemized on the invoice.
