Why smart locks fail (and how we avoid it)
Most smart-lock complaints aren't about the electronics. They're about the door. A motorized deadbolt has far less force than your wrist, so if the bolt drags against the strike, the lock jams, drains its batteries and reports errors. We check alignment and adjust the strike so the bolt throws freely, which is the difference between a smart lock you love and one you rip out.
Choosing one
- Keypad only (no app): simple, reliable, no Wi-Fi needed. Great for side doors and rentals where you manage codes on the lock.
- Bluetooth: works from your phone when you're near the door. Add a bridge for remote access.
- Wi-Fi: remote access and alerts built in, and more battery use.
- Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter or Thread: the right choice if you already run a smart-home hub.
Whatever you choose, get a lock that also takes a physical key or has a backup power option. Batteries die at the worst moment.
Short-term rentals
Per-guest codes that start at check-in and expire at check-out mean no key handoffs, no lockbox, and no rekeying when a guest forgets to return a key. Most rental platforms and property-management tools integrate with the major lock brands. We install and test the lock; you connect it to your booking software.
Heat, humidity and salt
South Florida is hard on outdoor electronics. Check the lock's rated operating temperature and whether it's rated for exterior use, keep the exterior keypad out of direct afternoon sun where you can, and change batteries on a schedule instead of waiting for the low-battery warning. On the coast, ask about finishes. Our salt-air guide covers it.
Smart lock and keypad lock installation across Broward and Palm Beach
We're a mobile smart lock and keypad lock installer working across Broward County and Palm Beach County, with additional coverage in North Miami-Dade. What people want from a digital lock changes with the area: vacation-rental owners in Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale want a fresh code per guest; seasonal owners in Boca Raton and Delray Beach want codes they can switch off from up north; offices and condo buildings in West Palm Beach want a code per person instead of a rekey when someone leaves. Keypad deadbolts, keypad levers and Wi-Fi smart locks all get the same install: door aligned, codes set up and tested before we leave. For shared business doors, see access control and keypad entry.
What affects the price
- The lock model (keypad-only, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave/Matter)
- Door alignment and strike work needed
- Whether the door needs new holes or a different backset
- Number of user codes and app setup
The price on the phone is the price at the door. We quote the total before dispatch and you approve it before work begins. If something changes once we see the lock, we stop and tell you first.
- Lock or hardware typeA standard deadbolt, a high-security cylinder and a smart lock are different jobs.
- Vehicle and key typeMake, model and year; mechanical, transponder, remote or push-to-start key.
- ComplexityOpening a latch vs. a thrown deadbolt; one cylinder vs. a whole building.
- TimeEvening and short-notice work can cost more than a scheduled daytime visit.
- LocationHow far the nearest technician has to drive, and access (gates, garages).
- Required partsCylinders, locks, key blanks, chips and fobs, itemized on the invoice.
