Key fob battery replacement on site
Yes, we replace key fob batteries on site, at your car, home or business across Broward and Palm Beach County. Heat is hard on fob batteries here, and a weak one shows up as intermittent unlocking, a "key not detected" message or short range.
We open the fob without cracking the case, fit the correct coin battery, and test it with your car: lock, unlock, trunk and push-to-start. If a new battery doesn't fix it, we check the case, the buttons and the programming, tell you what we found, and quote before doing anything else. Not sure what kind of key you have? Try the key finder.
Prefer to do it yourself? Check the number printed on the old battery (CR2032 and CR2025 are the most common; some fobs use a CR2450 or CR1620), open the fob at the seam, and fit the new one the same side up. If the fob still doesn't work, call or text us with the vehicle and what it's doing.
Broken case, working electronics
A cracked fob case, a broken flip-blade hinge or worn-through buttons don't always mean a new fob. When the circuit board is fine, we can move it into a new shell, which is usually the lowest-cost fix. Your existing programming carries over.
Replacing a lost or failed fob
When the fob is lost or the electronics have failed, we supply a compatible fob, cut the emergency blade if it has one, and program it to your vehicle. If all fobs are lost, see lost car keys. You'll need ID and the registration or title.
Aftermarket vs. original fobs
We'll explain your options: original-equipment fobs and good-quality aftermarket fobs differ in price and sometimes in range and feel. We only supply parts we expect to program correctly to your vehicle, and we tell you before ordering if yours needs a specific part.
Who does the car key work
Car key cutting and programming is done by our automotive technician. You call or text Rocket Locksmith, we quote the price before dispatch, and the technician comes to your car. Lock work on homes and businesses is done by Rocket Locksmith directly.
What affects the price
- Fob type (smart/proximity vs. remote-head vs. flip)
- Shell replacement vs. new fob
- Original-equipment vs. aftermarket part
- Programming requirements for your vehicle
The price on the phone is the price at the door. We quote the total before dispatch and you approve it before work begins. If something changes once we see the lock, we stop and tell you first.
- Lock or hardware typeA standard deadbolt, a high-security cylinder and a smart lock are different jobs.
- Vehicle and key typeMake, model and year; mechanical, transponder, remote or push-to-start key.
- ComplexityOpening a latch vs. a thrown deadbolt; one cylinder vs. a whole building.
- TimeEvening and short-notice work can cost more than a scheduled daytime visit.
- LocationHow far the nearest technician has to drive, and access (gates, garages).
- Required partsCylinders, locks, key blanks, chips and fobs, itemized on the invoice.
