What a panic bar does
A panic bar (exit device) lets people leave with a single push, without a key or special knowledge, while the door stays locked from outside. Many exit doors in businesses, restaurants, churches and assembly spaces need one under fire and building codes. The right device depends on the door (single or double, metal or glass) and on how it's used.
Common problems we fix
- The door doesn't latch after it closes (often a closer or strike problem)
- The bar is hard to push or sticks
- The outside key or lever stopped working
- Dogging no longer holds the door open for business hours
- The device is loose on a busy door
Codes and required exits
If a door is a required exit, its hardware must keep that exit usable. Tell us how the door is used and we'll fit hardware that works with the code, not against it. For projects that need permits or fire-rated assemblies, we'll tell you what paperwork and approvals may be involved.
What affects the price
- Device type (rim, vertical rod, mortise)
- Single or double door
- Exterior trim
- Closer or strike work needed
The price on the phone is the price at the door. We quote the total before dispatch and you approve it before work begins. If something changes once we see the lock, we stop and tell you first.
- Lock or hardware typeA standard deadbolt, a high-security cylinder and a smart lock are different jobs.
- Vehicle and key typeMake, model and year; mechanical, transponder, remote or push-to-start key.
- ComplexityOpening a latch vs. a thrown deadbolt; one cylinder vs. a whole building.
- TimeEvening and short-notice work can cost more than a scheduled daytime visit.
- LocationHow far the nearest technician has to drive, and access (gates, garages).
- Required partsCylinders, locks, key blanks, chips and fobs, itemized on the invoice.
